Oil producing countries gradually nationalised their oil reserves, while many industrialised countries moved to regulate the distribution, taxation and price of petroleum products. These two processes were intimately connected. The commercialisation of arms exports required that buyers had the money to pay for their purchases, and it is therefore not surprising that the major boost for this transition occurred during the early 1970s, when the Middle East took over from South East Asia as the world’s leading market for imported weaponry.

Support that Israel’s dominant capital was able to enjoy close to two decades of depth-driven differential accumulation.
